Mozilla Summit 2008: Design Process

Mike Beltzner gathered a large group of us into the lobby, where we had ample light and airflow, and spoke on the different approaches to implementing design changes in Mozilla products.

Methods of the past were discussed, from silently injecting changes into nightly builds to announcing and documenting the changes in more of a “this is why we are doing this” approach.

One approach he spoke of was the “Steve Jobs” method where one champion was in charge of all final decisions on designs. Surprisingly, the idea was well received and it seemed as if a blended method of the “Steve Jobs” method combined with detailed posted reasoning for the work would be the ideal approach.

It’ll be interesting to see where the discussion leads Mozilla’s design process…
