Mozilla Summit 2008: Main Conference Room
The opening session is beginning.
John Lilly thanks us for being a part of creating a product that 1 in 5 people on the Internet around the world use every day.
Mitchell Baker now speaking about how the 400 people here are affecting the lives of 200+ million people.
Talk continues about what makes Mozilla the unique entity it is – an open source, public benefit, pioneer in creating free, mutually owned and managed programs.
The roots of Mozilla:
1) open source liscence,
2) peer review/meritocracy,
3) distributed/earned authority,
4) shared public asset,
5) public benefit
Speaking on the revenue model as being odd for an open source organization but the sponsorship from outside sources does not and never will affect or alter the roots of Mozilla – it merely supports the community and allows it to flourish and expand through grassroots campaigns.
Now a Q&A session with a Mozilla panel, including Brendan Eich, creator of javascript.
